The organization of a new Oklahoma Home Community & Education (OHCE) Club is currently underway. This club will meet in the evening for those individuals who work outside the home and childcare will be provided for anyone who has children. Increasingly, women and men want to provide his or her families’ lives and homes by new learning opportunities and community involvement. OCHE has a long and interesting history in Nowata County, that I will soon write a post detailing. There are 5 other OHCE clubs in Nowata County. The club is associated with the OSU Extension Service.

The OCHE Creed states the following beliefs:

We believe the family should come first in the life of the individual, the community and the nation. We shall maintain high standards in our homes through research and education to promote better use of all our environment and better living conditions for all. We shall encourage a faith in a God of love who is forever revealed through natural laws and human personalities. We shall have faith that strong leaders shall go forth from our homes and communities, carrying with them throughout the universe the ideals that we have proclaimed.

The club’s 2nd informational/organizational meeting will be held October 6th at 6:30pm at the Living Word Family Church, located at 222 S Ash/Highway 169. The group will choose a new name at the October’s meeting and several first-rate ones have been submitted for approval by the group. Many local women have expressed interest in joining the club because of the evening meeting time and childcare. Our members are very excited about the coming year and look forward to fun fellowship, varied learning opportunities and community service. The first meeting welcomed 7 interested individuals and 2 children. The children were entertained by two excellent care givers, Miss Milla Watts and Miss Jackie Dean.

Oklahoma Home and Community Education is a program of continuing education in all aspects of home and community life. The organization’s ultimate aim is to educate its members to be well informed and able to handle change in their homes and communities. OHCE is in a unique position to help individual members and their families and communities develop to a higher level of living through education. No other organization is poised to develop community leaders and informed citizens through research-based educational programs.

Everyone is invited to attend and become part of this energizing group. Childcare will be provided and refreshments served. For further information, contact the OSU Extension Office at (918) 273-3345.
